2020-02-07Move gdbserver to top levelTom Tromey1-620/+0
This patch moves gdbserver to the top level. This patch is as close to a pure move as possible -- gdbserver still builds its own variant of gnulib and gdbsupport. Changing this will be done in a separate patch. [v2] Note that, per Simon's review comment, this patch changes the tree so that gdbserver is not built for or1k or score. This makes sense, because there is apparently not actually a gdbserver port here. [v3] This version of the patch also splits out some configury into a new file, gdbserver/configure.host, so that the top-level configure script can simply rely on it in order to decide whether gdbserver should be built. [v4] This version adds documentation and removes some unnecessary top-level dependencies. [v5] Update docs to mention "make all-gdbserver" and change how top-level configure decides whether to build gdbserver, switching to a single, shared script. Tested by the buildbot. 2019-07-09Rename common to gdbsupportTom Tromey1-1/+1
This is the next patch in the ongoing series to move gdbsever to the top level. This patch just renames the "common" directory. The idea is to do this move in two parts: first rename the directory (this patch), then move the directory to the top. This approach makes the patches a bit more tractable. I chose the name "gdbsupport" for the directory. However, as this patch was largely written by sed, we could pick a new name without too much difficulty. 2019-04-17gdbserver: Move remote_debug to a single placeAlan Hayward1-2/+0
A comment in debug.h (written in 2014) states: "We declare debug format variables here, and debug_threads but no other debug content variables (e.g., not remote_debug) because while this file is not currently used by IPA it may be some day, and IPA may have its own set of debug content variables". This has resulted in remote_debug being declared in many .c/.h files throughout gdbserver. It would be much simplier to define it one place. The most logical place to define it is in debug.h, surrounded by #define guards. This commit applies all changes made after running the gdb/copyright.py script. Note that one file was flagged by the script, due to an invalid copyright header (gdb/unittests/basic_string_view/element_access/char/empty.cc). As the file was copied from GCC's libstdc++-v3 testsuite, this commit leaves this file untouched for the time being; a patch to fix the header was sent to gcc-patches first. gdb/ChangeLog: Update copyright year range in all GDB files.

Currently, the function used by gdbserver to parse integers from received File I/O commands will detect overflow and fail for any value over 0xfffffff. Among other things, this has the effect of limiting the file offsets for reading or writing to about 268MB which can be insufficient for particularly large libraries. Most allocation functions (if not all) return a void* pointing to the allocated memory. In C++, we need to add an explicit cast when assigning the result to a pointer to another type (which is the case more often than not). The content of this patch is taken from Pedro's branch, from commit "(mostly) auto-generated patch to insert casts needed for C++". I validated that the changes make sense and manually reflowed the code to make it respect the coding style. I also found multiple places where I could use XNEW/XNEWVEC/XRESIZEVEC/etc. Thanks a lot to whoever did that automated script to insert casts, doing it completely by hand would have taken a ridiculous amount of time. Only files built on x86 with --enable-targets=all are modified. This means that all other -nat.c files are untouched and will have to be dealt with later by using appropiate compilers. Or maybe we can try to build them with a regular g++ just to know where to add casts, I don't know. I built-tested this with --enable-targets=all and reg-tested. Here's the changelog entry, which was not too bad to make despite the size, thanks to David Malcom's script. This patch is part of the make-gdb-buildable-in-C++ effort. The idea is to change some calls to the xmalloc family of functions to calls to the equivalents in the XNEW family. This avoids adding an explicit cast, so it keeps the code a bit more readable. Some of them also map relatively well to a C++ equivalent (XNEW (struct foo) -> new foo), so it will be possible to do scripted replacements if needed. I only changed calls that were obviously allocating memory for one or multiple "objects". While handling "vFile:pread:" packets, gdbserver would read the number of bytes requested regardless of whether this would fit into the reply packet. gdbserver would then return a packet's worth of data and discard the remainder. When accessing large binaries GDB (via BFD) routinely makes large "vFile:pread:" requests, resulting in gdbserver allocating large unnecessary buffers and reading some portions of the file many times over. This commit causes gdbserver to limit the number of bytes to be read to a sensible maximum prior to allocating buffers and reading data. gdb/gdbserver/ChangeLog: * hostio.c (handle_pread): Do not attempt to read more data than hostio_reply_with_data can fit in a packet.
